Three days is the length we suggest for Selous. It leaves time for everything the park is known for, without the early-morning rush of a day trip: drives through the woodland and along the lakes, a boat on the river, and a walk with a ranger, which very few parks allow.
You stay two nights in a mid-range camp in or near the park; we name it when we confirm your dates.
Day by day
Day 1: Zanzibar to Selous
Morning flight to an airstrip in the park. Your guide meets you for a game drive on the way to camp; lunch, rest, and an afternoon drive.
Day 2: Boat and bush
A walking safari with an armed park ranger in the cool of the morning, looking at tracks, birds and plants as well as animals. After lunch and a rest, a boat safari on the river into the evening.
Day 3: Last drive and back to Zanzibar
A morning game drive, then the flight back to Zanzibar and our driver to your hotel.
Small planes allow about 15 kg of luggage per person, hand luggage included, best in a soft bag; we confirm your airline's limit when we book. Flights can be delayed by weather or air traffic; if that happens, we adjust the day so you lose as little time in the park as possible.

Many camps in the park close for part of the long rains, around April and May; we check your dates first.

3-day Selous safari: questions
Who can join the walking safari?
Tell us everyone's ages and fitness when you enquire. The walk is at an easy pace, but the park and the camp set a minimum age, which we confirm before you book.
Why are prices lower in the low season?
Camps charge less outside the busy months and the park's camp fee is lower from October to June. Park entry and flights cost the same.
What is the weather like?
Hot most of the year. June to October is dry and the easiest time; the rains fall mainly from about November and March to May.
Can we combine this with Mikumi?
