With a full middle day you are no longer watching the clock. You can go out at first light, come back for a long lunch, and head out again in the afternoon, which is how most people enjoy a safari most.
It is a good choice for a first safari and for families: short flights, no long drives, and a comfortable lodge or tented camp in or next to the park.
Day by day
Day 1: Zanzibar to Mikumi
Morning flight to the airstrip in the park, where your guide is waiting. Lunch at your lodge or camp, then an afternoon game drive.
Day 2: A full day in Mikumi
A morning and an afternoon game drive, with lunch at the lodge or a picnic in the park. Your guide plans the route around what the animals are doing.
Day 3: Last drive and back to Zanzibar
A last early drive, then to the airstrip for the flight back. Our driver takes you to your hotel on Zanzibar.
Small planes allow about 15 kg of luggage per person, hand luggage included, best in a soft bag; we confirm your airline's limit when we book. Flights can be delayed by weather or air traffic; if that happens, we adjust the day so you lose as little time in the park as possible.

3-day Mikumi safari: questions
Is three days too long for Mikumi?
No. Mikumi is big enough for three days of drives, and the middle day is the one most guests remember, because nothing is rushed.
What is the lodge like?
A mid-range lodge or tented camp with a private bathroom and meals included. We name it when we confirm your dates.
Can we add a night on the mainland or another park?
Yes. Many guests combine Mikumi with Selous; see the Mikumi and Selous trip or ask us for a plan.
What should we pack?
Light clothes in neutral colours, a warm layer for early mornings, a hat, sunscreen, insect repellent and binoculars, all in one soft bag.
